Magnetic Movie | semiconductor - The secret lives of invisible magnetic fields are revealed as chaotic ever-changing geometries . All action takes place around NASA’s Space Sciences Laboratories, UC Berkeley, to recordings of space scientists describing their discoveries. Actual VLF audio recordings control the evolution of the fields as they delve into our inaudible surroundings, revealing recurrent ‘whistlers’ produced by fleeting electrons . Are we observing a series of scientific experiments, the universe in flux, or a documentary of a fictional world? - , , , - posted by dpp - 2018-11-08

JonasNorling/guitarboard: Cortex-M4 audio DSP board - This is a Cortex-M4 DSP board for development of audio DSP applications such as Guitar effects.

This repository contains the hardware design as KiCAD files and sample software that implements some naive guitar effects. For info about the software and how to load it, look at fw/ For more on the hardware, keep on reading below and also look in hw/

The board is based on a STM32F405RG microcontroller (192KiB RAM, Cortex-M4 with DSP and floating point instructions) and a WM8731 audio codec.

Niklas Roy: My little piece of Privacy - My workshop is located in an old storefront with a big window facing towards the street. In an attempt to create more privacy inside, I’ve decided to install a small but smart curtain in that window. The curtain is smaller than the window, but an additional surveillance camera and an old laptop provide it with intelligence: The computer sees the pedestrians and locates them. With a motor attached, it positions the curtain exactly where the pedestrians are. - , , , , , , - posted by dpp - 2018-11-06

Rube Goldberg machine - Wikipedia - A Rube Goldberg machine is a machine intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and overcomplicated fashion. Often, these machines consist of a series of simple devices that are linked together to produce a domino effect, in which each device triggers the next one, and the original goal is achieved only after many steps. - - posted by dpp - 2018-11-04

Tristan Perich : 1-Bit Music - 1-Bit Music (2004-2005), a project by composer and artist Tristan Perich, probes the foundations of digital sound.

An electronic circuit is assembled inside a CD case with a headphone jack on the side. The device plays back 40 minutes of low-fi 1-bit electronic music—the lowest possible digital representation of audio. The Cantaloupe Music release of 1-Bit Music is no longer available, except as a limited art edition ($100).

Perich works with the same chips to create 1-Bit Video and his machine drawings, pen-on-paper drawings executed by machine that explore randomness and order.

tele-present wind on Vimeo - tele-present wind - 2018

This installation consists of a series of 126 x/y tilting mechanical devices connected to thin dried plant stalks installed in a gallery and a dried plant stalk connected to an accelerometer installed outdoors. When the wind blows it causes the stalk outside to sway. The accelerometer detects this movement transmitting the motion to the grouping of devices in the gallery. Therefore the stalks in the gallery space move in real-time and in unison based on the movement of the wind outside.

May-September 2018 a newly expanded version of tele-present wind was installed at Azkuna Zentroa, Bilbao and the sensor was installed in an outdoor location adjacent to the Visualization and Digital Imaging Lab at the University of Minnesota. Thus the individual components of the installation in Spain moved in unison as they mimicked the direction and intensity of the wind halfway around the world. As it monitored and collected real-time data from this remote and distant location, the system relayed a physical representation of the dynamic and fluid environmental conditions.

enzienaudio/hvcc: The heavy hvcc compiler for Pure Data patches. - hvcc is a python-based dataflow audio programming language compiler that generates C/C++ code and a variety of specific framework wrappers.

The original need for hvcc arose from running against performance limitations while creating interactive music and sound products for the iPhone. Pure Data (libpd) was the only real choice for a design tool as it was embeddable and provided a high enough abstraction level that musicians or sound designers could be creative.

The goal was to leverage Pure Data as a design interface and statically interpret the resultant patches to generate a low-level, portable and optimised C/C++ program that would be structured to take advantage of modern hardware whilst still generating the same behaviour and audio output as Pure Data.

It has since then been expanded to provide further support for many different platforms and frameworks, especially targeting game audio production tools.
